KNOXVILLE SUPERMODELS is a spatial exploration fundamentally aimed at the future city.  Setting out to inject high levels of architectural imagination and experimentation into untapped territories within the urban / infrastructural / industrial fabrics of Knoxville, this studio is tasked to cultivate spatial potentials that point to futures which are yet to be imagined.  Utilizing design agility as our prime mode of investigation, we will navigate a multitude of operational modes in an effort to cultivate questions which would otherwise not be considered and develop architectural evidence that constructively points to spatial futures not yet imagined for the city.  The mission of this experimental studio is not to solve problems, or to “get it right”, but rather to identify, invent, suggest, cultivate, refine, develop and broadcast versions of an architectural imagination for Knoxville in the myriad ways that only such a studio set-up can possibly deliver.  We will strive to expand notions of context beyond the default approach that accepts the city as it is from the outset, and shift to a working mindset that gains its thrust by iteratively considering what could be.  In this sense, we will utilize improbable territories and projective socio-cultural questions to fuel architectural operations that culminate in new spatial, programmatic, industrial, material, structural and / or cultural configurations and / or typologies.
